Cast iron cooking has, again, become very
popular. In the old days, when I was a kid,
that was just about all there was, now it's difficult to find stores that keep
cast-iron
utensils on the shelf. As with all the TexasCook pages, we're not here to fill up
your
recipe box with a lot of recipes, but to give you a few to start with and the
knowledge
that you can make your own recipes and cook them in any fashion you desire.
Campfire cooking is not particularly difficult, just an attitude adjustment to
using and
understanding the heat, charcoal and fire properties. Remember, any food cooked
inside can successfully be prepared on your grill, campfire or smoker.
Enjoy the cast-iron cooking tips.
We'll start with how to season your cast iron utensils, some
dutch oven cooking
tips, preparing your coals or campfire, then get into some really good tried and true
outdoor campfire, coal cooking recipes like a campfire casserole, pineapple upside
down
cake, some pork and potatoes, a cherry almond cobbler and even cheese biscuits.
Insert your own ingredients, using the basic recipe to create a dish customized to
your taste
