
As I am sure most of you know, shoo-fly
pie was originally made
in pioneer days to keep flies occupied at one window of the
house, so as to keep the rest of the house as fly-free as
possible...what would they think about us eating it now!
Shoo Fly Pie
| Crumb: 1/4 cup shortening 1-1/2 cup flour 1 cup brown sugar |
Liquid: 3/4 tsp baking soda 1/8 tsp nutmeg dash of ginger dash of cinnamon dash of cloves 1/4 tsp salt 3/4 cup molasses 3/4 cup hot water |
unbaked pie shell
Work crumb ingredients together. Mix liquid ingredients well and
add hot water into an unbaked pie shell. Combine the crumbs and
liquid in alternate layers with crumbs on bottom and top. Bake
15 minutes at 450°, then 20 minutes at 350°.
